Draft EPBC Guidelines open for comment

Aug 19, 2013

Public comments are now being sought from interested parties on the draft referral guidelines for the outstanding universal value of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, particularly in relation to their effectiveness as an Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) guidance tool.    These referral guidelines are intended to provide guidance to proponents on the need to refer an action to which the EPBC applies.

The Australian Government is also interested in any new research or information on the outstanding universal value of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area which can contribute to future policy revisions.

Comments will be accepted until COB 1 October 2013. At the end of the comment period the guidelines will be finalised, taking into consideration any comments received. The guidelines will be updated as substantial new information becomes available. For a copy of the draft referral guidelines and information on how to provide comment, visit http://environment.gov.au/epbc/publications/consultation-draft-referral-guidelines-great-barrier-reef.html.
