Reef Check Australia Survey on the Fraser Coast

Aug 19, 2013

Reef Check Australia has recently kicked off their South East Queensland survey season at the Fraser Coast.   This marks the second year of Reef Check Australia reef health monitoring surveys in the area, and they are excited to jump back in the water!

A team of trained Reef Check volunteers will survey the five long-term reef health monitoring sites implemented last year, in Hervey Bay and on the Wongarra Coast. Surveys will collect information about reef composition, abundance of key invertebrates and reef health impacts. During this trip, the team will also be conducting an underwater clean up on reefs fringing Big Woody Island, the location with the highest level of marine debris recorded during 2012 surveys.

Results from last year’s surveys can be found through the online Reef Health Database and in a collaborative Summary Report on the Reef Check Australia website (http://www.reefcheckaustralia.org/data.html).
