Five new Reef Awards join Landcare Awards!

May 19, 2015

This year for the first time, the Queensland Landcare Awards will be joined by 5 new Australian Government Reef Awards categories which were announced by the Queensland Farmers Federation last Friday.

For the first time Queensland Water and Land Carers, the Regional NRM Groups and Australian Coastal Societies have combined to offer a joint conference, now labelled Reef Range and Red Dust Conference, in Caloundra on 31st August to 2nd September 2015.  The Landcare and Australian Government Reef Programme Awards gala dinner is a key element of the packed conference program.

The Australian Government Reef Programme Awards calls for nominations from champion farmers and land managers who have been working to reduce their off-farm impact on the iconic Great Barrier Reef.  The program has achieved unprecedented uptake of new farm management practices to reduce sediment, nutrient and pesticide run-off into waterways, and has been the unexpected catalyst for extended social and economic benefits.

The inaugural Reef Range and Red Dust 2015 conference bring together an inspiring and exciting mix of keynote speakers and workshop leaders.  To see more, visit the website

“When you have a single conference that covers the entire continuum from the rangelands to the reef, there are sure to be many interesting stories to share.” says Lane Pilon, Executive Officer of Qld. Regional NRM Groups Collective and chair of the organising committee, “The focus of this journey is about how we are all connected in caring for our lands and waters and how this connectivity impacts on each and every one of us.”

If you know a group or individual that deserves recognition for the great work they do, please take the time to consider working up a nomination. There are nine categories and it would be great to get as many entries as possible in from across our region as we know we have some of the best!
