Green Army Information Session - do you need assistance with a Heritage Project?

Jul 28, 2015

20 August 2015

The Green Army Programme is an Australian Government initiative to help local communities deliver environment and heritage conservation outcomes across Australia. Projects delivered by Green Army Teams will be guided by local community needs and contribute to Australia’s environmental priorities and national and international obligations to conserve and protect Australia’s natural, historic and Indigenous heritage assets.

Organisations with an interest or responsibilities in heritage conservation are invited to become familiar with the Green Army Programme and consider applying for a Green Army Team to assist in the delivery of a range of activities that help preserve important heritage assets.

To date, there has not been a high uptake of heritage projects in the Green Army Programme. However, to encourage more heritage projects, the Green Army Round Four Guidelines will have a targeted focus on heritage projects commencing from 1 January 2016. Heritage projects include Projects primarily concerned with conservation of National or World Heritage listed places whether they are listed for their natural, historic or Indigenous values. Heritage project activities may include restoration of built National and World Heritage sites, conservation and protection of the cultural heritage values for National and World Heritage sites or assisting in environmental restoration and rehabilitation of World Heritage Areas.

If you would like to learn more about the Green Army Programme, there will be Community Information Sessions held across Australia during August 2015 to coincide with the release of Round Four. Those interested in becoming a Project Host are encouraged to attend.

Your nearest session will be held on Thursday 20 August between 9-11am at the Mercure Hotel, Brisbane.
