Success for the Burnett Mary Region at the QLD Landcare Awards

At the gala Queensland Landcare and Reef Programme Awards dinner held as part of this year's Reef, Range and Red Dust, Queensland's Landcare, coastal and Natural Resource Management Conference, four prestigious awards have been won for the Burnett Mary Region.

The Awards showcase the diversity of the work that encompasses natural resource management and highlights the importance of managing Queensland's land and waters. More importantly they provide due recognition for the dedication and hard work of all those involved in caring for our environment.

The three Queensland Landcare Award winners Region representatives will take their place at the Australian Landcare awards to be held in 2016.

And the winners are…..

  • Kay Enkelmann from the Burnett Mary Regional Group received the QLD Landcare Facilitator Award for outstanding service and support of the region's more than 35 Landcare, Coastcare and Primary Production groups.
  • Phil Moran, a well known and highly regarded environmental advocate received the QLD Individual Landcarer Award for his unstinting work as an environmental educator.
  • The Fraser Island World Heritage Area Indigenous Advisory Committee received the Indigenous Land Management Award for their work in recognising and recording K'Gari's Cultural Heritage.
  • Mark and Brian Pressler received the Reef Programme Sugarcane Award for their innovation in irrigation and drainage and work to improve water quality on the Hill End Farm in Bundaberg.
