Ecosystems Suffer Death by a Thousand Cuts

Australia is usually thought of as having vast expanses of wilderness. There are 75 distinct terrestrial ecosystems in Australia. Since settlement, however, human impacts have decimated Australia's ecosystems through fragmentation and clearing. Six of the 75 terrestrial ecosystems have lost 50% or more of their original extent.
