Weeds Mitigation
BMRG is working with regional councils, community, landcare and catchment groups on reducing the impacts of invasive weeds following the January 2013 floods.
The Burnett Catchment Care Association (BCCA), the North Burnett Landcare Group and the North Burnett & Bundaberg regional councils are the main proponents in delivering the program.
Financial assistance will be available for landholders to aid and escalate the mitigation of these threats.
Public education and awareness activities will provide information about the impact of floods on the spread of invasive species to ensure landholders are able to identify and manage new and emerging threats.
Advice from a Burnett Mary weeds technical group has advocated an integrated approach to managing invasive weeds through the use of chemical, biological and mechanical controls and the use of ground cover. Each of these techniques will be incorporated into the weeds mitigation programs.
