During her visit to Bundaberg, Environmental Minister, the Honourable Sussan Ley, pledged $300,000 to the Mon Repos turtle centre, where more marine turtles come to nest each year than anywhere else along eastern Australia. The funding will support the turtle work of Traditional Owners, including Gidargil’s Land and Sea Rangers, as well as providing resources to cool down marine turtle nest sites and increase the chances of hatchling survival.

This innovative project will see the combined forces of scientific research, the knowledge of Traditional Owners, and the resources of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to protect and conserve the future of an endangered and iconic marine animal.
