Collaborating with and supporting communities gives those best placed to understand the issues and who most benefit from our natural resource management programs – local communities and individuals – the chance to actively participate.

The Landcare network in the Burnett Mary Region is made up of a number of local groups who play an essential role in helping to manage our areas of natural beauty and significance and mitigate threats to our biodiversity assets.
Primarily a volunteer network, our Landcare groups are made up of dedicated and motivated individuals who provide their time and expertise to address our region’s most pressing environmental concerns.
Our Regional Landcare Facilitator program assists Landcare groups with their activities.

Burnett Mary Reef Partnership – Cane
Sugar is a very important industry in the Burnett Mary region. Cane Growers in this region are some of the most innovative in the world. The sugar industry is represented by three geographic partners in the Burnett Mary Reef Partnership, and is supported by BMRG. The three regions are aligned with the Bundaberg, Isis, and Maryborough Milling Districts.
Sustainable Sugar & Support for Growers
Through the Burnett Mary Reef Partnership and with investment from the Australian Government’s Reef Programme, cane producers in the region are able to access support to improve land management. This investment will support activities which improve farm sustainability and improve reef water quality by reducing sediment, nutrient and pesticide loss.
If you are a cane farmer in the Bundaberg, Isis or Maryborough milling districts you may be eligible for financial assistance to carry out a variety of property improvements. Your eligibility will depend on the type of activities you wish to undertake. If you would like to know more please contact the relevant officer in your area.

Burnett Mary Reef Partnership – Horticulture
Horticulture is the second largest agricultural industry in the Burnett Mary Region by value. The horticulture industry is represented by one partner in the Burnett Mary Reef Partnership, supported by BMRG.
Sustainable Horticulture & Support for Growers
If you are a horticultural producer in the Baffle, Kolan, Burnett (downstream of Paradise Dam), Burrum Basin or Mary River Catchments, you may be eligible for assistance to carry out a variety of practice changes. Your eligibility will depend on the type of activities you wish to undertake.
