How a Sprinkler is Saving Endangered Turtles – Watch the Story on Landline

Sometimes, the simplest solutions have the biggest impact. In an Australian-first, we used a sprinkler to mimic a rainstorm—triggering bum-breathing turtles to lay their eggs!

For just 90 minutes, one sprinkler soaked the sand while another misted the water’s surface, perfectly recreating nature’s cue for nesting. And it worked! A clutch of eggs was laid, proving that smart, collaborative conservation efforts can change the game.

By blending Traditional Owner knowledge with modern science, we’ve achieved something never done before—encouraging turtles to nest outside of natural rain events. And all with the help of a humble sprinkler. Seriously!
