Introducing Margaret Blackman

Emerging Indigenous leader Margaret Blackman (pictured) has joined the Burnett Mary Regional Group (BMRG) team as a project manager.

Margaret is working with traditional owner groups to facilitate cool burn workshops following the “Black Summer” fires.

Aboriginal (Yidinji and Gurang) and Torres Strait Islander (Mer and Mabuaig) woman, Margaret worked in the Australian Public Service for more than 10 years.

She was an elected member of the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander advisory body, looking after the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate.

In her role as a non-executive director of Gidarjil Development Corporation, Margaret supports art projects, caring for country and language programs to benefit First Nations people.

She’s also on the Cape York Leaders Program steering committee and supports the commitment to empowering talented Indigenous leaders.

Having attained her Master of Business Administration, Margaret has a goal to see more First Nations people establish and operate their own thriving, sustainable businesses.

“I’m pleased to join the BMRG team and to be working with traditional owners on a project that promotes caring for country using cultural knowledge,” she said.
