BNTAC Rangers and BMRG Staff Unite to Rescue Stranded Milbi
During a recent reconnaissance trip, BNTAC Land and Sea Rangers Tilly, Kaile, and Mitch, along with BMRG staff Dave and Keira, embarked on an unexpected rescue mission. While out in the field, they stumbled upon a stranded milbi (green sea turtle) on an isolated island. Fortunately, Tilly, a dedicated Turtles in Trouble volunteer, knew exactly what to do in this critical situation.
The team quickly sprang into action. It took the combined effort of three people to carefully lift the milbi into their boat. The journey back to Urangan Harbour was slow and cautious, ensuring the milbi’s safety throughout the ride. Upon arrival, they were met by Brad, another Turtles in Trouble volunteer, who was ready to transport the milbi to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital for much-needed treatment.
The milbi, affectionately named Chey, is now under the expert care of the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Chey is currently recovering, thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the rangers and volunteers. This heartwarming rescue story highlights the dedication and teamwork of those committed to protecting marine life.
An update from Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital: Although still showing symptoms that something is not right, Chey has begun eating well which is a positive sign. Recently, her water was made a little deeper to help with her recovery.
